Five Points should have been one of the first reviews up on Immaculate Infatuation. The fact that it had to wait until slot #126 is completely our bad. It’s one of the most reliable and universally likeable restaurants we’ve been to, coming through in the clutch time after time. Need the ultimate place to take your mom when she comes into town? This is it. How about a centrally located spot for a business dinner downtown? Check. Date night? Absolutely. Better yet, make a day of it. Play hooky from work with your current love interest, get a massage at Great Jones Spa next door and follow that up with lunch. Now that’s the start to a quality day. Although it’s not in the food rundown below, brunch at Five Points is top notch.
Not only is their menu updated seasonally, the entire restaurant goes through a transformation. Everything from their drink menu to the decor changes with the seasons. Personally, autumn is my favorite time to come here with their leaf filled branches, strategically placed pumpkins and gourds, apple cider drinks, pork chops, sweet potato mash and pumpkin desserts.
Food Rundown:
Tuna
Four triangles of raw sushi grade tuna dressed with olive oil, shaved onion, radish, fennel, lemon and chives. Considering the heavy nature of the entree options, this light starter balances out the meal nicely. If this special is available, we highly recommend.
Roasted Field Mushrooms
You can’t really go wrong with roasted mushrooms served with local corn polenta, shaved parmesan and sage-pistachio pesto. All amazing ingredients- the flavor was spot on.
Gnocchi with Short Rib Ragu
Five Points will usually offer one pasta option and it almost always involves some kind of ridiculous meat. The Short Rib Ragu might be the single best thing to ever come out of the Five Points’ kitchen. Damn is this stuff good.
Wood Oven Pizzette
One of the dishes Five Points is well known for, this pizza is a meal in itself. The crust was nice and doughy, while the underside, perfectly crispy- layered in fontina cheese, thinly sliced Yukon Gold potatoes and white truffle oil. Solid.
Grilled Hampshire Pork Chop
Hungry? Good, because it takes a big appetite to take this puppy down. Although I found the middle area to lack a little juiciness, the oozing outer regions and sweet potato mash made up for the middle’s shortcomings. Did I mention this thing is massive already?
Oven Roasted Baby Chicken
Buttermilk fried chicken is usually a fixture on the menu here, and we were a bit disappointed to find it missing in action on our last visit. Maybe the recent fried chicken boom led Five Points to decide it was played out- not mad at that. What we are mad at is the fact that although the accompaniments of garlic mashed potatoes and roasted Thumbelina carrots were amazing, the chicken left us unsatisfied. That’s what you get for ordering chicken when there are so many other good options on the menu.
Onion Rings
Big Steakhouse style o-rings, do yourself a favor and order these. They taste real nice along-side your pork chop.
Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Roasted so well they pretty much melt in your mouth, these juicy sprouts are an Infatuation go-to side dish at Five Points.
