We often get asked about where to eat before a show at Central Park’s Summerstage, and for the most part, Via Quadronno is not the place. Most of you know better than to spend fifteen bucks on a sandwich. Also, the service here sucks, and it’s usually packed to the gills with a mix of crusty Upper East Side lifers, tourists, and people desperately hanging on to their dreams of being European. That said, the sandwiches at this place are pretty incredible, and if you’re in a pinch and sick of having money, Via Quadronno is a good option. We recommend sticking only to the panini – they’re pricey but generally awesome. We also hear Via Quadronno does an excellent cappuccino, which is probably why people flock here to drink one and tell their friends all about the summer they spent in Milan. Again. Get me out of here.

Food Rundown:

Tentazione Panini
One of Via Quadronno’s stand out panini. Shrimp on a sandwich usually doesn’t speak to me unless it’s in po boy form, but this is an incredibly well conceived sandwich with shrimp, arugula, smoked mozzarella, and pink sauce. It can get a little messy, but it’s tasty.

Primavera Panini
Another one of our favorites, this one is goat cheese, tomato, romaine, and a black olive “pate” that’s amazing. At ten bucks, it’s almost a good deal. Oh wait, no it’s not.

Lo Spazzino
Great sandwich, great name. I don’t know what “Lo Spazzino” means in Italian, but when I get a dog, that’s what I’m naming it. This panini is young roast pork, provolone and a caper sauce, and it’s a winner.

Non Ti Scordar di Me
I have to admit, I was wary of ordering this one. It’s apparently an award winner, but speck, brie, and pate on a sandwich sounds like it was created from a dare. This is however, pretty amazing. Not as rich as you might expect.
