Some restaurants do brunch, other restaurants are brunch. Between 11am-3pm on the weekends, 38 MacDougal Street, otherwise known as Hundred Acres, transforms into ground zero for Manhattan brunchers. Women come in packs, decked out in outfits specifically reserved for looking good while drinking bloody marys. Dudes only come when accompanied by females, because let’s face it, the pastime of brunch is a predominantly female activity. When was the last time a guy (one that you don’t watch Real Housewives with) asked you where to find the best bottomless mimosa deal?
Despite being a SoHo epicenter of brunch activity, Hundred Acres manages to run a tight ship. And that’s part of the reason we like it. Even during prime time, waits rarely run over thirty minutes for a table. It’s an efficient operation, and it’s also a nice environment to spend some time in. No one dresses up a dining room for the season quite like the Hundred Acres family. As we’ve experienced similarly at their other restaurants, Five Points and Cookshop, the attention to seasonal details are always on point. That’s what happens when you’re willing to put a tree in the middle of a Manhattan dining room.
And while we surely enjoy a well-run restaurant and being surrounded by pumpkins and hay in the early afternoon, it’s the brunch time food (dinner is a different story) at Hundred Acres that keeps us coming back. Their cinnamon buns are probably the best we’ve ever had, and Stang used to work at Cinnabon back in the day, so he knows what the f*ck a cinnamon roll is supposed to taste like. They also have an entire section of bloody mary options, which makes all the those “b*tches who brunch” (ugh) very happy, and usually very drunk. Which has us thinking…for single dudes, it may be time to stop chasing tail around dirty bars at night and instead post up at the Hundred Acres bar while its still light out. On our way out, we counted 38 women, six men and two babies in the front dining room. Those are good odds. Order up a few mimosas and strike up a conversation.

These beautiful creatures need to be on your table. Try not to think about how bad they are for you, just eat them now and run later.
Brioche French Toast
A respectable French Toast. No, it’s not the best we’ve ever had, but it certainly does the trick if you’ve got the craving.
Served with caramelized apples and pecan butter, this thin, sweet stack hits the spot. We’ve been thinking about them ever since our last visit.
Pulled Chicken Poached Eggs
This daily special was incredible. Spicy pulled chicken, tortilla chips, perfectly poached eggs, radishes, and a bunch of other things make for a nice plate of food. Mash it all up and enjoy.
Slow Cooked Pork Shoulder with Poached Eggs
You knew we were ordering this guy. Served in its own skillet, this display of eggs, pork, and onions is best ordered to share. Just know that eating the whole serving will result in automatic nap time when you get home.
Skillet Baked Eggs
They change the egg offerings at Hundred Acres daily, but there’s usually always one baked eggs dish on the menu and we always order it. We recently had one with some combination of cauliﬂower, capers, onions, and ricotta which was excellent.
Grass Fed Burger
On a scale of 1-10, the Hundred Acres burger gets about a 6.5. It’s a bit better than average, with sharp white cheddar and sour pickles on a brioche bun. But it’s not exactly as good as an $18 burger should be either. If it was $12, it’d get a 7.5.
