Sushi Seki
1143 First Ave., Upper East Side, NYTwo things have changed since this website started taking over our lives: we sleep less, and we eat more. You would think that the body’s natural response to such developments would be to force rest and fasting. Instead, quite the opposite has happened. We’ve begun to take a lot of pleasure in a little thing [...]

Kanoyama
175 2nd Ave., East Village, NYA diamond in the rough sushi find. This is some of the best fish you’ll find for the money in Manhattan.

Tomoe
172 Thompson St., Greenwich Village, NYWaiting in a line outside of any restaurant seems a bit silly to us, but Tomoe is arguably one of the best sushi restaurants in the city, as you will see by those patiently standing single file out front on most nights. And it certainly isn’t the atmosphere that’s got people queued up on Thompson Street. The place is a dump.

Jewel Bako
239 E. 5th St., East Village, NYJewel Bako is one of those restaurants that we’ve been hearing about for a while now, mostly from East Village residents who never leave the neighborhood for anything. Ever. You have friends like that. People who act like Third Avenue is the Korean DMZ, and would sooner commit ritual suicide before getting in a cab [...]

Tori Shin
1193 1st Ave., Upper East Side, NYYou know what’s amazing about New York? The fact that you can live in a neighborhood for almost five years and have absolutely no idea that there is an incredible hidden gem of a restaurant just down the street from your apartment. You’ve probably walked by it countless times, never even noticing that it exists [...]

Yakitori Totto
251 W. 55th St. 2nd Floor, Midtown, NYFirst things first – if you are walking into a restaurant on the ground floor, you are NOT walking into Yakitori Totto. Yakitori Totto is on the second floor. We nearly made that mistake, but the guy in the street level Japanese restaurant looked so surprised to see customers, we figured something was up. Head [...]

Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya
187 Orchard St., Lower East Side, NYOur admiration for Blue Ribbon is well documented. Despite a fast and furious expansion plan that could have easily doomed the brand, it seems that each new opening from this group brings a positive new angle to the growing empire. They seem to really understand that the most important factor is the food, which is [...]

Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill
308 W. 58th St., Columbus Circle, NYBlue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill is kind of a ridiculous concept on paper – a Frankenstein fusion of Blue Ribbon Brasserie and Blue Ribbon Sushi in a Thompson Hotel lobby. We’re huge fans of the Blue Ribbon brand, especially the brasserie and sushi outposts. We’re not huge fans of Midtown, especially Midtown hotel restaurants. [...]

Sake Bar Hagi
152 W. 49th St., Midtown, NYThere’s an episode of No Reservations, back in season two when Bourdain was still fresh and full of cigarettes, that will forever stick with us. It’s 45-minute video glorification of the city of Osaka, a place that is apparently loaded with incredible food, smoky baseball bars, and people that eat and drink just like we [...]

Takahachi
85 Ave. A, East Village, NYTakahachi, we wish you delivered. On second thought, it’s better that you don’t, otherwise I might never leave my apartment.
