Porsena
21 E. 7th St., East Village, NYIt’s true. We can be tough to please. Case in point, Porchetta, 2009. As rave reviews flew, and religious texts were ameneded to include word of Sara Jenkins’ roasted pork sandwich, we went public with our disappointment. We just couldn’t get on board with all those five star write ups and online Yelp freak outs. [...]

Frankies (457) Spuntino
457 Court St., Brooklyn, NYNot that Frankies needs another glowing review, but this really is a fantastic restaurant if you can manage to get a table. It’s a tiny, cozy joint with simple Italian cooking, and the food is pretty damn great.

Frank
88 2nd Ave., East Village, NYFrank has been serving hungry hipsters in this hood for years now and doing it with their own DIY “we do it our way” attitude. The food is consistently solid, though a little underwhelming at times, but you come back regardless because it’s places like this that make the East Village one of the greatest neighborhoods in the world.

Il Posto Accanto
190 E. 2nd St., East Village, NYIl Posto Accanto is home to some of the best meatballs and pastas in town, along with a great wine list and open air dining. We were honestly sort of torn about writing this place up, but you’re a loyal reader and deserve to have it in your repertoire. Just promise you won’t tell New Jersey.

Not just because they have sweet beards and excellent taste in classic rock, but because they were the gateway drug that helped us open our eyes and discover all that Brooklyn had to offer. I distinctly remember my first meal at Frankies 457 in Carroll Gardens back in the [...]

Il Mulino
86 W 3rd St., Greenwich Village, NYAn alpha-dog hot spot that most people around town will passionately defend as the best of it’s kind, even though the service is cold and the food heavy handed and extravagant.

Spasso
551 Hudson St., West Village, NYWe’ll give you one reason, and one reason alone to go to Spasso. Pasta. Sure, it’s a slick and impressive looking West Village restaurant, and it’s probably a pretty good option for your next Date Night dinner. But there are also about six other great date restaurants within a few block radius – all with [...]

Lil’ Frankies
19 1st Ave., East Village, NYThis one has been a long time coming. Show of hands. Who out there has not been to Lil’ Frankies? No one. That’s what I thought. If you’re a resident of downtown Manhattan, you’ve most likely enjoyed a meal at Frankies at some point over the last decade. The youngest child of the Frank restaurant [...]
