This is it. The home stretch. After five full days of raw vegan, we’re going strong (See Entry 1, Entry 2 & Entry 3). We are proud of ourselves, but we also can’t really sit here and act like we’ve endured hardships or put on some incredible demonstration of will power. We’re eating like kings. Just take a look at the pictures at the end of this post.
After you are done looking at the raw food porn (too graphic?) go ahead and read this article on juice cleanses from yesterday’s New York Times. Basically, Judith Newman did one and says, “the next three days could be summed up thus: 1. I need food. 2. Hey, this isn’t bad! 3. Kill me now.” Sounds fun. Also note that this is published in the Fashion & Style section rather than the food section. There’s a point to be made in there somewhere, but we’re too busy eating delicious stuff to make it.

As mentioned above, part of me is proud to have made it this far. But then I look at what I ate for the day and feel like I am lying to you people. This thing definitely doesn’t feel like a diet. I do have to say that I was impressed with my ability to sit at the dinner table at Pure Food and Wine the other night and not participate in any wine drinking. I like wine. A lot. Somehow though, I wasn’t that tempted. Probably because I feel like an invincible bad ass and I don’t want to mess with my mojo.
PS – that attitude with absolutely lead to me injuring myself somehow. Stay tuned.

My favorite meal of this entire cleanse was today’s breakfast. The coconut yogurt parfait with hemp and buckwheat granola was incredible. It tasted like dessert, and was so filling that I didn’t even think about lunch until 2:30. It’s definitely going in regular breakfast rotation post-cleanse. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve started planning my dinners at ‘regular’ restaurants for next week, and I’m a little bummed this whole raw food thing is going to be over. There are parts of it I’ll definitely come back to, that’s for sure. Today’s highlights: The Good – Enjoyed everything I ate today, and the Knicks won on opening night. The Bad – Today marked the first big stomach ache, and it was a bad one too. It was quick, it was painful…and then it was gone.
