This past Sunday, we took our first step to rightfully claiming the regular Top Chef guest judge spots that Anthony Bourdain (Stang) and Dana Cowan (Steinthal) currently occupy. The Top Chef Tour made it’s way through our great city, and we were asked to levy judgement during a live Quickfire Challenge. The contestants? Friday Fives alumn Angelo Sosa, and Season Four contestant Nikki Cascone. Rounding out the judging panel was Season Five’s Ariane Duarte, AKA The Cougar (who’s actually married with kids).
So what exactly goes on when Top Chef hits the road? Well, there is basically a head to head cookoff between past contestants, a little trash talk between them (if you’re lucky), some fan Q&A, and many a headshot being signed. We learned some things – mostly that Angelo has jokes and cries less than we expected – but also that these chefs really are talented. Picking a winner wasn’t easy, but we did.
