Alec Baldwin

We’ve been trying to impress Alec Baldwin ever since he played Winona Ryder’s ghost dad in Beetlejuice. We just figured if we got to the father figure, we could get her past that fruity Johnny Depp guy who we knew would never amount to much. Unfortunately, neither of us had any way to reach Mr. Adam Maitland at the time, and instead spent most of those years listening to The Cure and painting.

Much time has since past, and Alec Baldwin has reinvented himself five times over and become one of the most beloved actors of the last three decades. As for us, we cry a little less often, and have created a moderately successful website about eating. Less significant achievements for sure, but one of them did finally connect us with baddest of Baldwins. Thanks, internet.

So today we bring you one of our biggest Friday Fives to date, and one that is close to the heart. Alec gives us his go-to restaurant picks for New York, with a bit of freestyling on the categories. No matter. Jack Donaghy can do whatever he wants. Check out his Perfect For picks below, and be sure to follow Alec on Twitter for some funny stuff, some smart stuff, and some stuff that makes you think he might actually run for mayor of this town. God willing.

Alec’s “Perfect For” Picks

Always-Good-Never-Had-A-Bad-Meal

Nougatine (One Central Park West) – “The food, the room, the music. All relaxing and very good.”

Rice and Beans and Sweet Plantains

La Caridad (588 Amsterdam Ave.) – “A countertop joint on the Upper Westside. When you want to…you know….eat.”

Place To Watch Interesting People While Eating Food That Is Actually Good

Via Quadronno (25 E. 73rd St.) – “Get the Tuna Affumicato and arugula salad. Also, the best vegetable puree soup in NY.”

Place To Blow It Out for a Ridiculously High Calorie Meal

Barney Greengrass (541 Amsterdam Ave.) – “Mushroom onion omelette, nova platter, bialy, veggie cream cheese, cream soda. Then take a nap. Then run 12 miles.”

Pizza

Serafina (1022 Madison Ave.) – “Believe it or not, the pizza at Serafina on Madison and 79th is excellent.”

Bonus

“Sushi at Kanoyama at Second Avenue and East 11th Street. The frozen yogurt with berries at Cafe Lalo is still the best in NY. Place to eat healthy while thinking unhealthy thoughts: dine on anything at Pure Food and Wine and stare at Sarma Melngailis all night. Still great after all these years? The atmosphere at Cafe Luxembourg.”
