Matt & Kim

It’s tough not to love Matt & Kim. They march to the beat of their own drum and know how to write an addicting, out of left-field pop song. So what if they kind of sound like a hipster version of Fraggle Rock on mushrooms? Regardless of whether or not you work with them directly (we don’t), Matt & Kim are the kind of artists us industry types root for to win. They do everything with a big smile on their face and spend time coming up with excellent ideas (see the “Lessons Learned” video) to set them apart. They’ve earned a loyal following around the world, and will be one of the headliners at MTK Festival in East Hampton this August.

Now, Matt and Kim might tell you that they’re not the ideal choice for a Friday Fives, what with their easy to please palates and tendency to eat at the same Williamsburg places repeatedly. But we happen to disagree. We’ve always wondered who actually eats at Oasis Falafel, and now we have our answer.

Donate $7.99 to the falafel fund by buying their new album, Sidewalks, and make sure to keep up with Matt & Kim on Facebook and Twitter. They’ll be on the road with Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance this fall, no big deal. Brooklyn, represent.

Matt & Kim’s “Perfect For” Picks

Vegetarians

Food Swings (295 Grand St. Brooklyn, NY 11211) – “People seem to think that vegan food is always healthy. Not necessarily the case. Food Swings is almost all fried food, but 100% vegan. It’s fun for a vegetarian cause you don’t have to worry about anything on the menu.”

Chronic Brunch

The Lodge (318 Grand St. Brooklyn, NY 11211) – “The Lodge is always jam packed for brunch, and since we’re constantly busy, we’re jealous of all the people who get to stop their day and just go eat and enjoy themselves. We wish that was us. Jealous! ”

Taco Fix

El Loco Burrito (345 Graham Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11211) – “My favorite food in general is Mexican food, but I still haven’t had much success in Brooklyn. Some people really love that place in Greenpoint Papacitos, but my local favorite is El Loco Burrito and Bedford and South 2nd. I judge my Mexican food by how big it is. I’m not picky. I don’t want my tacos to be the size of a quarter and if I’m gonna get a burrito, make it a BURRITO. This one is huge, has tons of flavor and is really inexpensive.”

Date Night

Pates Et Traditions (52 Havemeyer St. Brooklyn, NY 11211) – “Kim’s new favorite restaurant. It’s this crazy little French place around the corner from our apartment that makes the best crepes I’ve ever had. Granted, this was my first whirl in the world of savory crepes, but these were unbelievable.”

Late Night Eats

Oasis Falafel (161 N 7th St. Brooklyn, NY 11211) – “Once you’ve had something to drink, nothing tastes better. ”
