Tokyo Police Club

Tokyo Police Club

Believe it or not, hard rocking indie upstarts Tokyo Police Club aren’t from Manhattan. Shocking, right? They’re not from Tokyo either. The band is actually from Ontario, Canada. Go figure.

When artists come through town on tour, they usually don’t have much time for leisurely meals, so they become experts on what good grub they can get their hands on quickly and late at night. We checked in with Graham Wright, Police Club keyboardist, to see where they like to hang out after shows. Keep up with the band on Twitter, and while you’re at it, buy their new record, Champ.

Graham’s “Perfect For” Picks

Full On Pork Indulgence

Porchetta (110 E. 7th St.) – “Apparently this place is regularly selected as the best sandwich in the city, which makes sense to me. Rarely do I so shamelessly get to enjoy animal fat. “

Serious Take-Out Operation

Butter Lane (123 E. 7th St.)- “Right across the street from Porchetta and the ideal place to finish your artery clogging waistline expanding NYC food orgy. Everyone has an opinion on the best cupcakes in the city and Butter Lane gets my vote. They also sell shots of frosting, which is so disgusting that it’s awesome.”

Burgers

Corner Bistro (331 W. 4th St.) – “We have a long standing and sacred tradition in our band of hitting Corner Bistro at least once every visit. I’ve probably eaten better burgers, but I never enjoy them like I enjoy a Bistro Burger at 3:30 in the morning.”

Late Night Eats

San Loco (151 Ave. A) – “It’s possible that God has never created a more satisfying culinary experience than scarfing down two Chicken Guaco-Locos when you’re coming home at 4:30AM.”

Quick Eats

Olive’s (120 Prince St.) – “The fresh mozzarella sandwich is excellent, they have great soups, and their chocolate chip cookies are exactly right. This place rules.”

Graham’s Twitter People

@mcsweeneys – McSweeneys is a publisher of excellent books, magazines, and internet content and their Twitter is of equal quality.

@colsonwhitehead – Writer of some of my favourite books and now some of my favourite 140 character musings/one-liners/witticisms.

@beatonna – Kate Beaton draws really funny comics.

@RL_Stine – RL Stine, who wrote the awesome Goosebumps books that kept me awake as a child, now tweets ghost stories. It’s pretty much as great as it sounds.

@CBCRadio3 – Great Canadian internet/satellite radio station on which I occasionally host.

@grahamwright – Handsome ladykilling keyboardist/man about town revealing the mysteries of life and love, 140 characters at a time.
