Restaurants In Midtown East

our suggestions

  1. The National
    8.3

    The National

    557 Lexington Ave., Midtown, NY

Restaurants get after us online all the time. They try and lure us in for a review by telling us how great they are over and over again, most with wreckless disregard and absolutely zero tact. Restaurants that agressively hustle to get people like us in the door to write about them generally suck. That’s [...]

    Aburiya Kinnosuke

213 East 45th St., Midtown East, NY

From what we’re told, this is an authentic Japanese establishment, all the way down to the robata grill. We can’t vouch for its authenticity, nor are we sure that a robata grill isn’t something from the Sky Mall catalog, but we do happen to agree that this place is damn good.

  3. Tenpenny
    7.8

    Tenpenny

16 East 46th Street, Midtown, NY

Restaurants in Midtown are a mess. They’re generally made up of overpriced garbage that appeal directly to the easy to please Suits, and fancy 4-star eaters. It’s rare that we find an unheralded gem around these parts, but that’s exactly what we discovered in Tenpenny. You can’t see it from the street, but hidden inside [...]

  4. The Smith Midtown

    The Smith Midtown

956 2nd Ave., Midtown East, NY

There’s something happening, and I’m not sure that any of us are ready for it. Slowly but surely, new and successful restaurants are opening in the East 50′s. Some people call this area Turtle Bay, and some people call it Midtown East. But almost nobody calls it a great part of town for dinner. So [...]

  5. Grand Central Oyster Bar

    Grand Central Oyster Bar

    89 E. 42nd St., Midtown East, NY

All of this recent oyster bar talk surrounding Jeffrey’s Grocery, The John Dory and Goat Town got us thinking (shocking, I know). Do we not have a Grand Central Oyster Bar review? Time to fix that and drop a little respect on the elders. The truth is, I hadn’t actually been to Grand Central Oyster [...]

  6. P.J. Clarke's
    7.5

    P.J. Clarke’s

915 3rd Ave., Midtown East, NY

A few things prompted today’s review of P.J. Clarke’s. First of all, we’re fired up for the upcoming Season 4 premiere of Mad Men, and P.J. Clarke’s is one of the few places in town that still feels like a relic from that era. If you want to get your Roger Sterling on and hit [...]

  7. Hide-Chan

    Hide-Chan Ramen

    248 E. 52nd St., Midtown East, NY

Run by the same folks that brought Totto Ramen to Midtown, Hide-Chan also opened this summer and we’re glad to report that it’s another solid addition to Midtown eating. But sharing management and serving noodles is where the similarities between the two end. Totto is dedicated to a mastery over the less common chicken based [...]

  8. Social Eatz
    7.4

    Social Eatz

    232 E. 53rd St., Midtown East, NY

Angelo Sosa is kind of a weird guy, so it should come as no surprise that Social Eatz, the new restaurant from the Top Chef (and Friday Fives alumn), is kind of strange as well. The name, the excessive use of a cartoon logo as table centerpiece – it all brings a bit of an [...]

  9. Le Colonial
    7.4

    Le Colonial

    149 E. 57th St., Midtown East, NY

Le Colonial is legit. Yes it’s expensive, and yes it feels a little stuffy. But the food is delicious, (mostly) authentic, and the service is great. So now that you’ve heard about it here, go eat at Le Colonial and help it get some cool back.

  10. Naya

    Naya

1057 2nd Ave., Midtown East, NY

Part of having a relatively unique ethnic background is that you grow up highly aware of anyone or anything also from that place of ethnic origin. For example, I can tell you that both Casey Kasem and Tony Shalhoub are Lebanese. I can also tell you that the current Miss USA, Rima Fakih is Lebanese, [...]
