Lombardi’s
32 Spring St., Nolita, NYThe self-proclaimed “first pizzeria in America,” Lombardi’s has long been at the top of the list for tourists looking for a taste of real New York City pizza. Rightfully so, as this Neapolitan style coal oven pizza is top-rate. Unfortunately, to get a taste you’ll have to wait in line behind the gaggles of people being dropped off by the double-decker bus load.

Barney Greengrass
541 Amsterdam Ave, Upper West Side, NYYou want to know something kind of embarrassing? I’m a Jew who grew up just outside of the city and not once had I ever eaten at Barney Greengrass until last week. Alec Baldwin & Richard Blais would be so disappointed. Over the years, I’ve definitely gotten a taste of their infamous sturgeon and smoked [...]

Grand Central Oyster Bar
89 E. 42nd St., Midtown East, NYAll of this recent oyster bar talk surrounding Jeffrey’s Grocery, The John Dory and Goat Town got us thinking (shocking, I know). Do we not have a Grand Central Oyster Bar review? Time to fix that and drop a little respect on the elders. The truth is, I hadn’t actually been to Grand Central Oyster [...]

Les Halles
411 Park Avenue South, Flatiron, NYIf what you know of Anthony Bourdain is entirely based on No Reservations, you might expect that a restaurant under his watch would be all about ethnic food, random animal parts, and booze (which would actually be amazing). But Les Halles is a straightforward French bistro, and it’s all about the steaks and the fries.

P.J. Clarke’s
915 3rd Ave., Midtown East, NYA few things prompted today’s review of P.J. Clarke’s. First of all, we’re fired up for the upcoming Season 4 premiere of Mad Men, and P.J. Clarke’s is one of the few places in town that still feels like a relic from that era. If you want to get your Roger Sterling on and hit [...]

Old Town Bar
45 E. 18th St., Gramercy, NYOver a century of Big Apple history lies within these walls, saturated into their prohibition-era marble bar and stained all over their vintage urinals and toilets. Old Town’s no frills formula has been working for generations. It’s all about the company you keep and beer you drink.

Walker’s
16 N Moore St., Tribeca, NYIn a Manhattan neighborhood that’s undergone a modern facelift over the last twenty years, it’s good to know not everything has changed. With the exception of a couple of new flat screens, Walker’s is pretty much exactly the same as your Pops left it back in the day when this tavern was the place to [...]

Employees Only
510 Hudson Street, West Village, NYOnly Employees Only is to thank for NYC’s current obsession with old school cocktailing. They were the pioneers. Without them, there is no Death & Co, Clover Club, Ward III, PDT, Little Branch…the list is endless. Employees Only paved the way and helped change the nightlife landscape in this city. Sure, it’s always been a [...]

Celeste
502 Amsterdam Ave., Upper West Side, NYThis old school red sauce Southern Italian trattoria has been an UWS neighborhood staple for years. The food is definitely good and very well priced for the area, but the real reason you’re coming to Celeste is to spend some quality time with the owner. Welcome to the Carmine show people. You know his type. [...]

Il Vagabondo
351 E 62nd St., Upper East Side, NYAside from having a bocce court in the dining room, Il Vagabondo isn’t much different than any other old school, NYC Italian restaurant. We have so many places like this in town that it’s hardly worth writing them up.
