Restaurants Perfect For Small Plates

our suggestions

  1. Terroir Tribeca
    8.0

    Terroir Tribeca

    24 Harrison St., Tribeca, NY

We’re not usually crazy about wine bars. There are a few on this site that we can get behind, but generally we stay away. Why? Well first of all, there aren’t many that serve good food, and it’s rare that we’re heading out to drink without some serious eating on the agenda as well. Second, [...]

  2. Mercat
    7.9

    Mercat

    45 Bond St., NoHo, NY

You won’t catch the Infatuation hanging out here on a regular basis, but every once in a while it’s fun to kick back, drink in hand, and watch the ridiculous action unfold around you. Their selection of exclusively Spanish wines is just as attractive as the pretty people drinking them and – shocker special – the food is good too.

  3. Tia Pol
    7.8

    Tia Pol

    205 10th Ave., Chelsea, NY

Tia Pol is an ultimate Infatuation First/Early In The Game Date spot. Take the edge off, have a couple of glasses of wine, and maybe some sangria while you’re at it too. Conversation will be flowing freely, you’ll be sharing quality small plates, and before you know it, you’ll wind up back in her apartment listening to Lady GaGa while you play grab-ass on the couch.

  4. Bar Carerra
    7.7

    Bar Carrera

146 W. Houston St., Greenwich Village, NY

Bar Carrera is an example of little things done right. The diminutive Spanish restaurant and wine bar turns out excellent small plates from a tiny kitchen at the back of the room.

  5. Bar Jamon
    7.7

    Bar Jamón

    125 E. 17th St., Gramercy, NY

We probably should have posted this review when we first wrote about Casa Mono, but that was back in the day when Immaculate Infatuation was just a struggling newborn, still in the incubator. I think Casa Mono was restaurant review number five on the site. But now that we’re a strong (and fussy) two year [...]

  6. Socarrat Nolita
    7.5

    Socarrat Nolita

    284 Mulberry St., Nolita, NY

We like the original Socarrat Paella Bar quite a bit – and we’re obviously not the only ones. So, as it goes when you’ve got a hot concept, Socarrat has begun its sprawl with a wine bar adjacent to its Chelsea flagship and a new, comparatively spacious location in Nolita. This Nolita location is exciting [...]

  7. Txikito
    7.4

    Txikito

    240 9th Ave., Chelsea, NY

What does Txikito mean? Well, first of all, it’s a play on the ancient Basque language where a T followed by an X makes a “ch”. Therefore, you get the adorable name, pronounced “chic kee toh”. What does “chic kee toh” mean? That two straight guys can never meet here for dinner. “Dude, meet me [...]

  8. Bacaro
    7.3

    Bacaro

136 Division St., Lower East Side, NY

Though the food at Bacaro is pretty good, it’s the kind of place you come to for the atmosphere. Exposed brick, crystal chandeliers, one large white candle on each table…if you can actually manage to get a date to come to this part of Manhattan, at least know you’re probably going to close the deal.

  9. Bocca Di Bacco
    7.2

    Bocca di Bacco

    828 9th Ave., Hell's Kitchen, NY

Midtown wine bars are pretty high up there on the list of places you won’t find us hanging out. Read away for the many reasons why. But thanks to good food and a good crowd, Bocca Di Bacco is the exception.

  10. El Quinto Pino
    7.2

    El Quinto Pino

    401 W. 24th St., Chelsea, NY

A while back, we pointed out in the Txikito review that this particular block of NYC happens to be in an ideal corridor for first date dining. El Quinto Pino is certainly part of that equation, but we say so a bit reluctantly. Why? Well, it’s a cozy little wine and tapas bar with character, [...]
